Issey Miyake is a Japanese fashion designer who began his career in Paris working for La Roche and Givenchy. He later moved to New York, then returned to Japan to found the Issey Miyake brand. Pleats Please was born after Miyake designed costumes for dancers and studied their movement. He invented a technique where garments are sewn together first and then folded to create pleats.
